Sulfonamides are antibiotics for treating Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections. Sulfonamides used in treating livestocks cholera or coccidiosis; long-term usage causes chronic poisoning, hemolytic anemia, or even drug resistance.
EU MRL rules the combined total residues of all substances within the Sulfonamide group should not exceed 100 ppb.
Drug residues test of Sulfonamides applies the principle of competition-inhibition immunochromatography. Sulfonamides in the sample bind to specific monocolonal antibodies labeled by colloidal gold, which prevent antibodies from binding to haptens immobilized on test line. Therefore, uncolored test line indicates a positive result.
